kennebunkport in the cold

Now that we’re officially Mainers, we took a Sunday afternoon trip to Kennebunkport. Incredibly popular in the summer, Kennebunkport has all the charm and none of the crowds in the winter. Every turn brought cute shops to explore, houses to envy, and history to learn. Though the town was made famous for being a fishing town, it still has lots of other things to offer.

There are so many food options – and all of them have great reviews. We didn’t stop for any meals, but The Boathouse Restaurant is on the top of my list to try. You can check out their website here.

As a self-proclaimed professional tourist, I love making Jake stop and pose at all the super cute spots. I’m excited to share these photos with our kids someday, and tell them about all the adventures and mishaps we’ve had. There are so many great photo locations year-round in Kennebunkport, you don’t even have to scout them out, they’re just everywhere. This was taken on the main bridge through town, which has plaques for you to learn about the history of the port.

It was so crazy to us to see how big some of these ocean boats are compared to our little lake boats that we’re familiar with back in the midwest. I’ve put whale watching and other sea activities on our bucket list, but I’m really excited to get out on the water. I’m sure I’ll be documenting lots of giant boats living out here in Maine.

The shopping was definitely my favorite part, and I even picked up this cute new scarf to stay warm on the chilly East Coast. There are lots of shops open and lots of offseason sales. I definitely suggest picking up signature location items in the winter or hitting a local thrift shop and seeing what they have. Usually you can find great pieces at a great price. I also picked up a new canvas tote bag and some soy wax melts that smell like Maine Pine.

The bag that I wore this day is the Large Transport Camera Bag from Madewell. You can find it here. I picked up this bag after wanting something smaller to tote around, but still out of the way like my belt bags. I reach for it everyday, and I love the square shape and the English Saddle leather.

All in all, I definitely suggest Kennebunkport in the winter. We’ll definitely back this season and once the weather starts to warm up. It’s a great walkable town to get out and move a bit, and see picturesque views around every turn.
