Established originally in 1641, Wells was the third town created in Maine. Home to Wells Beach, a seven-mile long sandy coast in the southern part of the state, the quaint town is filled with places to stay, seasonal shops, and waves big enough to surf. If you’re looking for a picturesque place to stay – you should definitely consider Wells Beach!

When you first roll into Wells Beach you’ll be in the heart of the area. Filled with hotels, shops, and views, there’s lots to see and do! Visiting on a Tuesday in February, we were amongst lots of locals taking breaks and eating lunch in the parking lot viewing the waves.

If you make your way north to the peninsula of Wells, you’ll have easy access to the beach. It’s a bit of a walk, maybe a quarter mile from the lot, but it’s quick and pretty. To your left will be the inlet, and to your right you’ll be able to spot some stunning beach homes.

The beach itself is large – with lots of room to roam. Dogs are allowed on the beach, but they need to be leashed and picked up after. We shared the beach with two other people who were taking their dogs for a stroll, and they both stopped and chatted for a bit. It’s a friendly area, and people really like to wave a hello or stop and say hi.

While walking around in the cold, I found myself planning a trip back when the weather warms up. Wells has great views in the winter and they’re uninterrupted, but I’m sure the warmer weather brings lots of people enjoying the beach and a few more activities. We’re not big on crowds, but May or September around here sounds pretty lovely!
Talk to you soon,
Adriana
